What kind of video card should I get?

I'm looking for a video card with at least 256 MG of video ram, that ranges between $200 - 300, and is compatible with a vista s2 (dv2310us) laptop. I plan on using it for intense graphic gaming. Suggestions...?|||upgrading a 14 inch laptop? Hate to say it, but there isn't anything you can do with that model =/ Most laptops use Mini PCI-E connectors, but most laptop vendors have custom sized gpus. If you want "Intense Gaming Graphics" you won't be getting it out of that thing. Upgrading a laptop is not like upgrading a desktop, you are pretty much limited to upgrading cpu/hdd/ram. If you wanted a gaming laptop, the only route is to usually buy a huge laptop like a 17 inch screen. A 14 inch laptop would melt or overheat since its so small from a high power gpu. I have a Gateway FX P Series gaming laptop with a 8800 GTS, and even I can't buy like any other graphics cards for it. Edit: The guy above me, obviously doesn't know the difference between desktops and laptops.|||9800 GX2

HDMI and Video Card question for gaming? 10 points?

I just got a custom built desktop with I-5 2500, GTX-460 with a an LCcd led backlight monitor. Upon build I had requested HDMI ports but all I can find is a VGA. How would the gaming graphics be affected with the use of a VGA in comparison to an HDMI, and also how could I go about getting an HDMI port setup (converter cable ? etc?)?|||It's not really a noticeable difference although I've never seen a GTX 460 without either DVI, HDMI, or Display Port connector. You've gotta have one of those in addition to a VGA port (which is rare these days)

You can get DVI->HDMI or Display Port-> DMI adapters pretty cheaply, those would provide better image quality than VGA->HDMI.|||GTX 460 contain a HDMI port and a DVI port and the usaul one VGA, to use HDMI you have to buy a hdmi cable and connect it with the monitor, and there is a big difference between them, hdmi guve better quilty image than vga but dvi port is the best one.|||VGA is a cable specifically to give what ever quality of image the video card supports but the hdmi has multi use to give HD image and sound so the vga is more powerful when it comes to image so it depends the better the graphics card the better the image on VGA|||Dude dont even worry about it your mother board probably doesnt have HDMI but your graphics card has a mini HDMI port.|||true... You do get VGA to HDMI converters i know this because i have one

Is having dual video cards better than having a single one?

I am looking into buying a gaming PC, and I am wondering whether I should buy one with one nVidia 8800GTS (320 MB) or the other that has two nVidia 8500 GT (512 MB).

Those are the links to both the computers. Thanks for your help.|||Well usually you can only have one. The computer would usually reject the other. However ATI has a line of cards called crossfire. If you have two crossfire cards installed then the system will take advantage of both cards to help boost the graphics. So I would recommend you get some crossfires if you want multiple cards.|||in this case, the one 8800gts will still kill the two 8500gts.

Im really confused about laptop video cards??!!?

hey guys,

i find that laptop video cards are really annoying, especially with the ATI HD cards. For instance with an ati hd mobility radeon 4570, is that a really good video card because its a high number? or are the 2000 series better? if so, what laptop brands sell laptops for under $1600 that come with video cards capable of running good games such as fallout 3 on med-high quality?

Are PCI video cards out of date?

My computer doesn't have a PCIe so I'm stuck using a PCI video card. Is it still possible to get a PCI video card that will support games nicely or is there a PCIe to PCI video card adapter that would work?|||The guy who thinks PCI graphics cards isn't outdated knows nothing.

PCI has been outdated for the past 7 years.

PCI is extremely slow-- 33mHz transfer speed, 133MB/sec bandwidth. This is a horrible bottleneck-- The old PCI bus simply cannot keep a graphics processor fed with data fast enough, which means ALL PCI video cards are slow as molasses. It is Completely unacceptable for today's applications.

In contrast, the current graphics card standard, PCIExpress 16x, starts at a bandwidth of 4096MB/sec for v1.0 spec. That's 32 times faster than old PCI.

Any PCI graphics card is a complete, utter waste of money. The only reason why card makers keep making them is because there are plenty of suckers out there who don't know any better.

Save your money for a new computer if all you have are old PCI slots.|||No, they are not out of date. They are not as common or as fast as they PCIe or PCIe x16. You can check the site listed below for 67 PCI cards from various manufactures. I am sure that if you look on the internet you can find even more. Just because a brick and mortar store does not carry it, does not mean that it is not available. Stores can not carry every option of every item, they do not have the room.|||pci's are outdated. its hard to find them in normal stores and i dont think video card companies support it anymore just like agp. an adapter would really kill your performance value. pcie is i think 16x faster. adapter would block the performance substancially. and also you wouldn't be able to play very recent games. maybe games from about 2 years ago would do|||What computer do you have? If it's only got PCI then it's very old and nothing new will run on it. It most likely has an AGP slot - I had a 500MB AGP card that just about managed Left for Dead. You had to wait a bit for the data to load onto the card but after that it was fine.|||PCI graphics are extremely dated, amigo. They were killed off by AGP graphics card at the turn of the century. There is no PCI graphics card today that will offer any sort of acceptable performance for any sort of game created in the last 8 to 10 years.|||yes Ofourse

PIC - Express is the latest

Even that will go out of date soon.

Intel's new Integrated Processor called Larabeee.

Laptops in general arent designed for gaming. My guess would be that the ASUS XGstation mite enhance the gaming video but if your pc doesnt have what it needs to play in the first place, all the addons in the world aint gonna make it work.|||They are all on paper for now. Asus has not produced the XGstation yet.

There is no changing video cards, and no external video cards for your laptop as of now.|||It might improve it abit but not a huge difference exactly. Thats a really good idea though, external video cards lol

I'm going to build a gaming computer and need help with what Video Card to get.?

I'm running on a budget I want to get a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor. I saw someone say that a ASUS ENGTX560 TI DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card will not work well. So could you give me a link on newegg to a good Video Card that will run on AMD. I'm trying to build a good gaming computer for games like Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3.|||I agree.... the Phenom II X6 1090T is a nice processor, but overall has weaker gaming performance than the Phenom II X4 970.

And unfortunately for AMD, nothing they have currently can compare with Intel's new Sandy Bridge processors. Even the $120 Core i3 2100 manages to edge both the aforementioned AMD processors, while the Core i5 2500K leaves them in the dust.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-s…

As for the person who told you a GTX 560Ti wouldn't work well, they were incorrect. That's a common misconception (that Nvidia cards somehow have problems with AMD CPUs - they don't). What is true - if you've got a Crossfire motherboard then going with an Nvidia card defeats the purpose, since you can't upgrade with a 2nd card later. Same thing for putting an AMD card in an SLI motherboard. But for any single-card configuration, whether you have an AMD or Nvidia card doesn't matter, just the raw performance.

The closest equivalent to the GTX 560Ti is the Radeon HD 6950.

http://www.techspot.com/review/359-nvidi…|||well its true going with a 4 core cpu will save you some cash, but the 1090t is defiantlly a better cpu. But if that system you have is within your budget, and theres really no better videocard to upgrade to that isnt stupid expensive, may as well stick with the 6core

XFX Radeon HD 6950 of a gtx 560 are both pretty close, id go with a 6950, but either card will work fine.|||6 cores not necessary....i suggest u to bu AMD Phenom ii X4 Black Edition 3.4ghz...

I just want my computer to go faster for a game that i play online. its warrock and i have a crapy video card right now that only has 64mb of memory.. But like everything else is pretty good. I have 1.25gb of ram.. also so i heard that was pretty good. I really hope you guys can help me :)|||You may be out of luck man. From the looks of it you have integrated graphics...which means no dice on a new card....Only way to go around that would be to get a new pc...srry cheif.|||I don't think your computer has a(n) AGP slot to use that card.

|||Find out what the interface is i.e. PCI-Express, AGP, etc. and post that here. If you call Dell they can answer that for you, but don't let them talk you into purchasing an upgrade from them. They are quite pricey.

How much would a good video card cost me?

I've been having trouble with my video card lately. My problem is it sucks. I play a lot of video game sand all the video games coming out are a little too good for my video card to handle. My computer's standards exceed the minimum requirements for most game except for the video card. Sorry.

And how do you break a video card?|||i play the sims unleashed and all those sims 1 games on this laptop right here, and it runs an onboard....Ide say you should be fine go ahead and try it an see what happens. Worse thing that can happen is you will have to wait till you get a new graphics card|||LOL. Let me ask you this, What would happen if the engine in my car broke and I removed it, what would happen?

Nothing. Your pc needs a video card to run. However, it sounds like your PC has onboard video card, since you seem to be able to see stuff on the pc when you turn it on.

Bottom line...if you removed a video card from your PC and you turn it on and see stuff then you have onboard video. If it's a very cheap onboard video card, then the sims may run very poorly. If it doesn;'t meet the sims' minimum specs, you'll get a message saying so.

Would my AGP 4x video card work for todays games?

I would max out your RAM to 2GB. You have to go to a local computer building store if it is a RAMBUS, DIMM, or DDR1 set. If the board is lower than an ATI Radeon HD 3650 1GB DDR2 AGP, I would get this one with the link below or go on BestBuy.com and type in what I have just above.

Help understanding video cards.?

I am not sure I understand what video cards exactly do for video quality.

For example, what are the benefits of having HDMI as opposed to VGA? Both seemingly produce the same results. Is this for increased resolution capability or something? Such as dual-monitor support? And video cards in general, when you buy a new one with more GB devoted to video, does that only improve the capability to display a video? Like in today's video games? Also, would a better video card allow for better video playing (i.e. no skips, lagging (after streaming), or pauses)? Sorry that this is a bulky set of questions!|||Video cards are dedicated processors for graphics. So yes, the better the video card, the better output possible - meaning better games (with higher resolution and higher refresh rate). Of course, you can have the best video card in the world, but if you have a mediocre screen - then what you see is the mediocre screen.

HDMI is capable of transferring more information than VGA - so if you have a larger, higher resolution screen, HDMI would result in better images (also, it carries audio along with it, so if you were to connect your computer to your TV, you would have audio with the HDMI cable whereas you would need another cable if you were using VGA).|||HDMI and VGA result in differences in picture quality and only in picture quality. So this is not only just resolution, but also lighting, shading, tone, etc. Both can carry out the same functions as the other, so if there is support for dual monitors in VGA, there is support for HDMI. (Because honestly, the only real difference is the output and input lines, system is the same)

Video cards with memory:

It's better to get cards with more memory. Basically a video card with memory is analogous to a computer with ram, it needs to process information and it does this by storing information. So the more memory you have, the easier time, your video card will have, this is true as to why video cards with more memory will have less lag and yes, better capability to display videos. Sometimes however, the graphical intensity is minimal that for many applications, graphics cards operate at the same rate and people go overkill with their purchase. If money is a concern, it's really a matter of what you need.|||hdmi is high def and really is not use unless you have allot of $$ or watching movies in my opinion at this time its useless mostly you want dvi with dual monitor card sup and what is more important is the fps(frames per sec) that a card can do the faster the better just to simplify just becAUSE YOU HAVE A GOOD CARD DON'T MEAN YOUR COMPUTER CAN KEEP UP. ram processor etc all play a role even your mother board and hard drive

Video cards Core, Memory and Shader Clock speed.?

Ok, so I am about to buy a new video card. I was told that I needed to pay attention to how fast the video card works. I need a video card that can run today's games on high, highest quality possible without issues. I was looking at GeForce GTX 460... (Anything I need to know about it)

I would like to know more about Video cards Core, Memory and Shader Clock speed.

What numbers do I have to look for?

GeFore GTX 460

Core Clock: 650 MHz

Memory Clock: 3400 MHz

Shader Clock: 1300 MHz

Is that good? or the Core clock speed is to low for today's game?

Any help?|||I agree with Mercuri, do not get caught up on numbers.

About GTX460, I say it is first fully successful Fermi made by nVidia. In this price range that card easily beats their competitor from ATI and that competitor is for example Radeon HD5830.

Also good thing about 460 is that it supports DirectX 11. This card should last for long.

Alternatives for GTX460 are: HD5770, GTX 260, GTX 465, Radeon HD6850, GTS 450.

If you want something more kick-a** go for GeForce GTX 560 1GB Ti. It is one of the newest represents of mid-end from nVidia. It's price beats HD6870, and it's performance beats HD6970.|||Don't get caught up on numbers. The specs of a video card really aren't going to tell you anything at all. If you want to compare video cards, look at benchmarks.

That being said, the 460GTX is a very good card.

Compatible video cards with dell inspiron 530?

My buddy has one paired with a X4 phenom and he can play crysis just fine at medium/high settings at something like 1390x900 resolution or something around that size.

Your processor seems like a good match for that 9800GT and assuming you have enough system ram (2048MB is fine) there shouldn't be any problems at all playing most any game you want to even with a Dell PSU.

Best of luck!

Hi. What should I do - install 2 video cards, or install 1, AGP or PCI?

I'm upgrading my mainboard from a GeForce FX 5200 to Geforce FX 6200 so I can have dual monitor support. I can empty my AGP slot by removing the GeForce 5200 or I can use an empty PCI slot and keep my old GeForce FX 5200 in the AGP slot. What should I do?

I will do casual gaming and trading in stock market.

My mainboard doesn't support PCI-Express slots.

Is it better to have two video cards installed?

Is AGP much faster than PCI ?

What does Windows do when you have *two* video cards in one system?

Any help is appreciated, thank you and Happy New Year.|||okay you definitely want only 1 video card in your system, and only one set of drivers for that video card.

PCI makes video cards that are 4x speed

AGP is 8x

What are some of the better video cards today?

I don't know much about these sort of things, but I'm hoping to upgrade my PC at some point to run my games better. However, there seems to be so many these days, I'm not sure which would be best for my system or how many are "fully" compatible with the games I play. So which video cards are recommended for a Win XP in order to play games like WoW, The Sims 2 games, and the Battlefield 2 games smoothly? Also, are there any other upgrades I should consider? Thanks.|||I know a perfect card. I play all those games except wow and the card I am talking about can even run oblivion at high settings which is not really that amazing anymore but it requires more then those games.

The EAX1950Pro its a great card it does not support DX10 but if you use windows xp then you really do not need DX10 even more so for those games.

Plus vista still sucks. Its a card that is fairly compatibles and runs cool compared to other cards in its league. And its not too expensive.

It would be perfect for those games.

edited--- This card will run all of those games on max specs. but your PC will also need good enough ram and CPU. but if your PC is fairly new then with this card you will be laughing.

Here is an url.

I now use a way different setup for more recent games but you will need liquid cooling and over $1000 to get the best types of setups.|||Hi have a look here. this should bring you up to speed.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/06/b…

PC Gaming requires a lot of processing power. There's always a trade off between resolution and fps (frames per second) in pc gaming. This means if you want it to look nice, your animation will slow. if you want your animation to go fast and dont have a very fast graphics processor, you will have to turn down the detail.

My recommendation as an absolute base-line starting point would be an 8800gt. I have had a couple of slower cards in the last few months but they were an absolute pain in the butt for games like oblivion and fear.

Admittedly wow and sims 2 are at the lower demand side of things but if you want to play anything relatively recent l8r on down the track it may be nice to have the hardware on board to do it.

In any case good luck and happy hunting. The site above should provide a good starting point. if you only ever want to play wow and sims2 the card above may work ok and you wont need to shell out too much cash to make a go of it (provided you have the cpu and ram currently on board)|||Lots of graphics cards are on the marked today. If you are light on the budget, a GeForce 7600GS would do fine. But I doubt it would play fair on games like FEAR. The Next Option is to go for GeForce 8600GT or 8600GTS. The next is the best; Geforce 8800Ultra (for real game lovers who wants to play games like FEAR at resolutions of 1920x1440) Hope you find your solutions

Video Cards?

hi. can anyone help me catch up. I want to play some games and while looking at the required specs, it states...

Graphics: Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT (SM 3.0) or DX10 equivalent

I really dont know how much memory that video card has.. will it be 128MB, 256MB, 512MB or 1GB?

why do the video cards' specs are stated that way? because last three years they just state how much memory your card should have in order for your program or game to function smoothly.

thank you very much.|||If you can find a Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT with 256 MB, and 7600GS with a 512MB texture memory, 7800GTX and X1800XT will give a big boost for games while 7600gs gives a poor performance. Let me explain it ,

Memory of a VGA doesn't make any change to graphics of a game. It's needed to load content such as textures of game.

Every real time calculation are done by GPU ( what we call Geforce 7800GTX , ATi HD2600XT etc). Just imagine a game with a high quality sea ( such as Crysis) . All the water details such as reflections, refractions, are calculated by GPU using shaders.

When the number of GPU increases from 7600GS to 7800GTX the core clock and shader clock of the VGA is increased with a very big ammount. That means 7600GS has a very poor shader clock than 7800GTX.

So if you use 7600GS ( no matter 512MB or 1GB- if exist) you'll get a poor frames per second than a 7800GTX 256MB. Because in this case your pc will look for more clock speed to render the sea,it will not look for more memory to calculate sea shaders.

I hope you understand. Never ask for a VGA by it's memory ammount, like " gimme a 512MB VGA".

for more info check this

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2…

You can see how the VGA ranks.

Excuse my English ;-)|||because memory on a card doesnt in the least tell u anything about the gpu speed , performance, or pixel shading capabilities ..|||512|||the problem is that very low end card started shipping with absurdly high amounts of memory that they could never actually use,

for example, they would have a Geforce 6200..very basic card, comes with 64mb of memory or sometime 128mb..then they would ship one with 512MB but still slow 6200 chip on it.

or what they would do is take a decent card, and use slower memory to offset the cost of more memory, and in turn would perform worse than the faster but lesser memory version

so what they did was just list the chip that they want you to have, and graphics card with that chip would have sufficient memory.

basically, they want you to have a graphics card that is better than a 7800GTX or 1800XT regardless of memory size.

now of course your not going to find a card thats better than a 7800GTX that has only 128MB or 64MB or memory, but you are going to find cards that are worse than a 7800GTX with 512MB of memory.|||Nowadays it can be difficult to look at a video card's numbering system and automatically tell which is better.

For instance, the 8800GT beats the old versions of the GTS, yet now the new versions of the GTS come close to the GTX. It can get confusing.

But anyways, an XFX 256MB Geforce 8600XXX would probably be sufficient to meet those requirements. They only cost $70.

And I can't recall ever seeing a video card requirement being stated as a simple "256MB" before. The RAM has to do with performance, but it is much more than that which determines the card's capabilities.|||OK not to offend you or anything, but gotta ask: are you a hermit or living under rocks for half a decade? It sounded like so to me. Generally spec mix is growing and fragmented

From my perspective I started with 486; in that era computers differ in:

- CPU: 486 DX2/SX/SLC, or 386 class, each with its own speed rating

- RAM size

- Video card slot type, VESA or ISA.

Moving on Pentium 4:

- CPU: Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron or AMD Athlon or Sampron.

- CPU socket types.

- CPU heatsinks and fan qualities.

- RAM size

- RAM type: DDR 266/333/400 that means PC2100/2700/3200 that means 133/166/200 MHz running at either single or dual channel mode.

- Video card: AGP universal or AGP 8x type.

- Video card type: classes like NVidia GeForce 2/4MX/5/6, ATI Radeon 7/8/9 with a speed rating postfix such as NVidia GeForce 5200 or GeForce 5500, GPU speed now matters.

- Video RAM type: SDR or DDR speed.

Moving on to current 64-bit era:

- CPU: Intel Core, Celeron, Centrino or AMD Athlon 64 or Sampron.

- CPU socket

- CPU heatsink and fan quality.

- mobo speed

- RAM type/speed: DDR 1/2/3 each with subclasses of speed and whether or not.running in dual channel.

- Video card slot: AGP 8x, PCI Express, or PCIe 2.0 and whether or not SLI or Crossfire ready.

- Video card GPU speed, you should know what 7800GTX mean by now.

- Video card memory type: GDDR2, GDDR3 each with mixed enchilada of speed and bit-width.

- Power supply unit: wattage, pin types, SLI readiness

This is just a basic sample how industry fragments for us who's budget builder and those of us who is a hard-core gamer. 7800GTX says it is NVidia GeForce 7 type, with a speed rating of 800 and performance tweak of GTX but ATI designations are not compatible even though works in the same way. DX10 says Windows Vista with higher requirement. Video memory amount means the same as it was; resolution requirement, although now throw in the mix that FSB is fast enough for the AMOUNT not to be strict as it was so for previous eras.|||Sorry to tell you but none of the 7 Series Graphics Cards run DX10. You have to get a 8 Series card to even think about it. I have the 8800 GTX. Which was a nice addition to my computer. lol.

Video cards for a Compaq computer that can handle The Sims 3?

My computer is a Compaq, and I run windows XP. I bought a Radeon 4530 HD for 60 dollars, to find out that it doesn't fit Compaqs. I'm specifically looking for a video card that will run with my computer and have good graphics for the Sims 3. Help? Here are the requirements for the game,

FOR WINDOWS XP

* Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

* 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent

* 1 GB RAM

* At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content

* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0|||How about post your computer hardware specs instead of the game's|||Is your computer a regular desktop box or a skinny slimline model? We really need to know which model of Compaq Presario you've got, because there are dozens of them with different specs. Usually the complete model name/number is printed on the outside of the case.

In general, Compaqs take the same video cards as other computers. But all slimlines (regardless of manufacturer) can only use half-height video cards, standard sized cards are too tall to fit inside the case. It's also possible that you've got an older desktop with a different type of slot for video cards. Modern computers use PCI-Express cards, but older models may require an AGP or PCI video card.

We definitely need more information about your computer... look for the model number (usually on the front of the case) or try running SIW, which will tell you the computer's specific motherboard model, and possibly the video interface type.

How do you maximize your video card performance?

Btw, my video card is Nvdia 6600. Basically, the graphic performances on my computer isn't as good as when I first got my computer (abt 3 years).

Here's the question, how do you keep your video card in shape?

At $91, this PNY 9600GT card is one of the more powerful video cards around, dollar for dollar,

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PNY-960…

It's true, the minimum recommended power supply for a 9600GT has 26A on the 12V rails, so a stock 300W power supply usually isn't good enough (many have only 17-18 amps on the 12V rail), but I was able to look up specs on another recent HP 300 watt "active power factor correction" power supply (not from that exact computer, but from a comparable one). The power supply is still sort of junk (made by Bestec), but, to my surprise, it has two 12V rails, 11.5A, and 11A. It's not wonderful, but it could be worse.

It also helps that a 9600GT doesn't draw that much power (around 60 watts peak).

Thus, I would try a 9600GT on the stock 300W power supply first. There's a chance it will work, and, if it doesn't, the worse thing that will happen is, it will crash once in a while --or more often --while playing games. But then you'll know for sure it needs a bigger power supply, and you can replace it.

Do I have to make sure the new video card I choose is of a particular type and make, or is the connection standardised, ie interchangeable no matter the maker?|||The slots for graphics are generally AGP or PCI Express. with an Intel 946 chances are about 99% that you have a PCI Express slot (which is good because it is the current standard. AGP went out of date 4-5 years ago.)

That is all you really need to know. The manufacturer and brand of the card don't matter much just look for something with the PCI Express interface.

Now to answer your original question, the best desktop GPU offered by Nvidia at the moment is the GTX 580, obviously it is quite expensive (cards start around $500USD).

The GTX 460 is a good middle of the range option. Assuming that's the 1GB version of the GTX 460, you should have no problems running those games at high settings at 1920x1080, though if you try running Black Ops at full settings, on full HD, that card might not cut it.

Upgrading to a GTX 470, or a Radeon HD 6870 might not be such a bad idea, and it will also help to make te computer a little more future-proof.|||A 350W PSU is not recommended for such a card, can't say what Dell is thinking when they put some of their computers together. What would the price range be for a video card that can support graphics of the latest games?

No it doesn't have to be an amazing video card just one that can support games like left4dead or fallout3 without any problems. (it doesn't have to be in the highest resolution either)|||If you're looking to play those games at about 1280x800at medium settings and maybe some filters you're looking at about a $150-$200 range. The 9800 gtx + will be easily be able to do all of that and probably a lot of the more complex games as well at medium settings no prob. U can also find them for sale at $120-$130 so I definetly recommend that card to you. Ati wise a 4770 or a 4650 would do as well but I recommend those to people who are more in watching bluray and putting that on a HDTV via hdmi. Game wise 9800 gtx all the way

If you have the money, I'd make the jump to the radeon 4870 for $125:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

However, the 4850 is still a good card, though the GDDR5 in the 4870 does give it a nice boost:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

That's your good $100 option. Anything less and it looks like you'll have problems playing GTA4 with high settings. It's good to include your other specs as well.

One thing I did notice is it sounds like ATI's cards may have some issues with GTA4. Not sure, but it sounds like it's one of those games that just doesn't like ATI. Anyway, you might consider an nVidia card. I'm not an nVidiot, I have Hd 4850 Crossfire, I just don't play GTA4.

Something like this GTS 250 (formerly the 9800GTX+) might serve you better for GTA4.

Okay so I real a bit more and it looks the real problem is not having a good enough video card on its own (though yours is not good enough).

Apparently it's a game that runs four threads, meaning it will only perform well on quad core. Then my advice to you would be this, depending on what you have already:

Grab this 9600gso, a moderate nVidia card about 20% slower than the 8800gt/9880gt, for a mere 35$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

In fact, if you're also CPU limited, you will likely see little difference between the 9600gso and the waaaaaay better 9800gtx+/gts 250... etc

And get yourself a quad core:

Personally, if your on socket lga775, look for a used q6600 and overclock it (if you're able, it's very easy, read about it, it's a free .6ghz boost at least). If your on AM2/AM2 plus look for a used Phenom gen 1 or low end Phenom II. I'd suggest like a 9850be/9950be. One click overclock to 2.8ghz pretty much because it's got an unlocked multiplier.

Anyway, if you have questions about what your system can take, or how to overclock, feel free to email.

When it comes to the card, you won't get good performance until you're past the $180 range.

Are these video cards good for something ?

For my birthday im going to get a video card.

My parents have set a limit of price for the video cards, and if i would buy a video card the best i could buy from that money is a Geforce 7300 GS or 7200GS. This price limit is because my dad doesnt want to just throw money for things like this, and i dont botter it because now i use an integrated intel 950 GMA so a video card would be better.

I am not looking for the best gaming performance, It is ok if the game is playable. The problem is that i dont know whats with that bandwith, my intel gma 950 has a bandwith of 10 GB/s and it has a memory interface of 256 bit or something like that, and the Geforce 7300 and 7200 GS have only 6 GB/s bandwith and a memory interface of 64 bit..

Does this matters or its not a big deal?

By the way will company of heroes work with the Geforce 7200 or 7300 GS ?|||Those graphics cards will hardly be an improvement over what you have. Both are terrible. As a general rune for four digit graphics cards, if the second digit xXxx (that one) is less than six, it will be bad. The cards you mentioned are barely more than card versions of integrated graphics, as they have a few stream processors, shaders, and are clocked slowly in addition to having low memory bandwidth and slow memory access. All that makes a slow card. To make your money count you HAVE to buy online.

This eVga GeForce 8600 GT for $50 with rebate is about the best deal you can get right now, and will give you a good gaming experience. Probably pull medium settings at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 in most games if not better. This card is nice with GDDR3 (faster memory) and it's 128-bit memory interface won't really hurt you much unless you want to play above 1280x1024 with Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering. Memory bandwidth is important for how many pixels.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you can make the Jump to $100 with rebate, the Radeon HD 3850 should double the peroformance of the 8600 GT. It's pretty rare not to get diminishing returns, but here you certainly don't. This card will max EVERY GAME with the exception of Crysis.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Just for refence, a 512mb 3850 should pull between 50-70gb memory bandwidth, meaning it will kick at Hi Res. The 8600 GT has about 22gb memory bandwidth. That said, there's more to it than that (btw, bit interface helps determine memory bandwidth), and since both cards have more processors working way fasters, I would guess that either card would be 10-20 times faster than the 7300GT.

None of the cards you said can touch company, cept MAYBE at very bare minimum. But it'll look like starcraft, so what's the point.

7300 will play a few newer games on minimum, so I guess it's an improvement. I think I may have exaggerated how bad it was above, but really, it's weak weak weak.|||Nvidia cards with GS are cut down versions with less pipes than the GTs, if you see LE thats a media center type of card which is pretty useless.

I'd recommend either a ATI Radeon 1650pro or Nvidia 7600GT... they are not too expensive and still decent cards.

i frgot to say this card stand first in rank till now by price/performance tag|||The questions you always have to ask when installing a new video card are:

Is there an available PCI-e x16 slot with space beside it for the video card's fans?

Is there physical room in the chassis for a larger video card (many small form factor or minitower machines can't take a full height-full length card)?

Does the power supply have enough Watts to support the card?

Does the power supply have the correct PCI-e power connection cable for the card if it requires it?

Your first problem with your Lenovo and most inexpensive Dell, HP and Compaq machines is that they have 300W (or lower) power supplies Yours has 280W. Mid-performance and above Radeon and GeForce cards require at least 400W - 500W.

So to consider a card, you may have to replace the power supply of the computer as well.

You would need to check whether the case has the space and the mounting screw holes correct for a standard ATX power supply.

We also don't know your budget. Bang for the buck, the Radeon HD 6850 isn't bad at about $200 + a new power supply. But check the charts below

New video cards not working right?

I have tried 2 new cards so far, and whenever I try to play any game, everything is very jumpy. I uninstalled my old drivers, installed the new ones and even went online and downloaded from the websites, for both cards. Nothing works. Is there a reason for this? How can I fix it? If I put my old card back in, for the minute or 2 that it works it runs everything smoothly.|||It might be the refresh rate of your monitor isn't matching the frame rate your video card is sending to it. Let us suppose your refresh rate is 60 Hz, and the card is sending 300 FPS. There are a significant number of frames that just will not be shown and you will see jerking and tearing.

In your video properties check and see if you have a setting for Vsync. If it is on, turn it off. If it is off, turn it on. Then run the game again. What Vsync does is tie the frame rate to the refresh rate (at 60 Hz you would probably be capped at 120 FPS) when it is on. What could be happening is (if on), your game needs a higher frame rate and is processing frames that it can't display. Or (if off) it could be displaying frames faster than your display can show them.

And, of course, there's always the case that some games just don't work with some graphics cards.

I want to combine two gtx 460 video cards together?

What i'm worried about is if it's the same thing, and if it'll work just the same as any other two gtx 460 combined?

On another note, will those two video cards combined help me run video games smoother and better fps?|||A GTX 460 is a gpu based on the fermi architecture. I do not know about a non-fermi 460. If your current 460 has 768mb memory you will need to get another 768mb card, likewise with the 1gb model. For them to work in sli they will have to share the same memory interface. Your best bet is to try and get a similar card to the one you currently have. 1. It should work the same as any other 460 combined, same sli principles. 2. You will see a perfomance increase, however the amount of performance increase you notice will depend on the game and drivers. sometimes it is better to get a more power full single card.|||Need to know what model of GPU you have what motherboard if it is compatible with SLI what is your PSU, CPU, and do you have a enough ventilation or case fans to deal with extra heat? Can you install 2 video cards and use both there video RAM to get more video memory?

Basically I want to connect 2 video cards to get more memory to run games better.

I bought a computer for 20 bucks that was better than my old computer and just needed a hard drive. So I took my old hard drive out and put it in there. I also had a Radeon 9200 128MB in my old computer, which was better than the 64MB Radeon 7500 in the one i bought.

So it came to my mind that maybe i can use a dual video card setup, not to have 2 monitors with the same display, but to use both there video RAM to have, in this case, 192MB of total video RAM. What do you guys think?|||http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Li…

Yes you can if you have the right ones and the right system board.|||IF your motherboard will support 2 cards. Check that out before you buy. Some do, most don't.|||No, you can't.

The other people's posts are misleading.

Motherboard that support Crossfire and SLI costs at least 200$. I'm quite sure the motherboar you have right now doesn't have that.

Also the Radeon 9250 is an AGP video card. There are no AGP slots that are SLI or Crossfire capable.

Also, you need to have the SAME video card in order to use SLI/Crossfire. Using different brands will not work.

Besides, how can you put the two video cards and you can't even plug both of them in the same computer?|||Not possible. Those graphics cards work independently. Dual video cards are only possible with something similar to SLI which connects two identical cards (for nVidia graphics cards).|||To add to what others have said, you can also run two ATI video cards, if supported by your motherboard. ATI refers to it as Crossfire. It is similar to Nvidia's SLI.

This is usually only possible in newer motherboards with the proper BIOS and hardware. Chances are your $20 board doesn't support either.

You get what you pay for.|||see if it has SLi interface. then you can connect them together. old pcs dont really have sli compatible parts so youd have to buy like...60 bucks worth of parts. just build a new one if u can|||The only games you will run better with a $20 computer and 2 Radeon video cards 64mb or 128mb, are Hearts and Solitare.|||as far as i know you cannot use two video cards at the same time. you just have to choose which one you're gonna use. if you put in an agp video card (assuming you're using its built in video card), the computer will automatically disable the built-in video card & use your agp. if you you're using agp & you plan on using the pci-e slot the computer won't even start up coz of the conflict between the two video cards.|||In order to set it up the way you describe, you will need a new motherboard which supports the SLS configuration. These Motherboards are set up specifically to do this. You will also need SLS compatible video cards as well. I know the old Voodoo cards had a way to piggy back each other for a similar result but I am not familiar with any video cards that are like this anymore.

Question about video cards?

My new video card requires a minimum of 350 watts, but my Power supply only gives 300 watts. Do you think a Power supply that gives less wattage than the recommended for my vid card could cause graphical glitches/artifacts to appear in my games?

It's what the computer technician/repairman from the store told me.|||This is probably true, since your power supply is not giving enough power to your video card to run the card might not even work and your computer could become unstable. Try to upgrade your power supply, it's not that expensive.|||It can spontaneous reboots. It's amazing the number of systems out there with underpowered wattage.

If you start crashing, that may be one reason. Or if you're trying to run too many things at once, DVD, TV card, etc. that's going to stress your power system. Remember, those USB things draw power from the computer, some more than others.

It's not much of a problem to replace the power system of the computer. You just have to be able to get in there and take it apart. A 500 watt power supply would probably be what you need and expect to pay 50 to 100 bucks for it.|||You should upgrade your power supply .

The video card will put a strain ot it, and yes- it will probably cause graphics corruption. It might run undervoltage and cause your video card to overheat and fail. It's like running your gasoline car on bad gas or diesel.

Eventually your power supply will give out and possibly cause other internal component damage too.|||Yea, it is very possible. If your graphical card is sucking up a lot of juice, it could cause the whole system to have problems. That would mean your whole system, including your CPU might be straining because of the tax on the power supply. 350 watt power supplies are cheap these days. I would certainly invest in one, maybe even a 400-450 if you got the extra $$$$. IMO, Antec makes some really quality power supplies. Save your system before things get worse.|||It'll either cause graphical glitches, or just crash your computer entirely if the card tries to draw too much power. Get a 400W power supply online for like $50. It'll save you some hassle later.

www.newegg.com

www.tigerdirect.com

www.directron.com

www.mwave.com

www.clubit.com|||erm yeah dude it will cause that as there wont be enough power to run it properly, and you will more than likley blow your power supply in a few weeks aswell.

its not worth it as when it goes it could take the mobo and card with it

kenny|||oh yeah its possible but your only talkin about an extra 50 watts i would keep an eye on the temp if you try to run it but i would go with a bigger power supply and not worry about it few more bucks might just save you a computer

A question about video cards?

Is there a place online I can download a free one?or is it something you have to go out and buy?...because I got a game the other day and installed it but when click play it says "could not initialize renderer!" and I was told I need a up-to-date video card and I really dont know anything about them.

Thanks |||Video Cards are bought and they are not something that you download, it is a physical object that helps to remove some of the RAM's "load" so, I don't know what game you have, but I would suggest a 256 or above.|||It's a piece of hardware, so you actually have to go out and buy it.

Two Video Cards?

I just want to know whats the point of having 2 video cards? besides running two monitors. Does it improve game performance, and does it actually improve anything... The reason i ask this is i accidentally bought two of the same kind of video cards from ebay so i paid for them now i have two.... I was wondering if it would be beneficial to run both of them or just sell one of them. Do they need to be any special kind of video card to run two? They are both 256MB pci (not express) video cards... Same model, same brand. I got it so i can play games on my piece of crap computer.|||You can run two PCI Express cards, if they are the right type and you have the right type of motherboard, and yes it improves performance. But in your case you can only run one PCI graphics card at a time, so you should sell the second, or I guess keep it as a backup, but thats not really necessary.|||sell one of them. 1 off you only need 1|||normally, a pc can have a built-in video card. now purchasing another one makes the pc capable of having two video card. in your case, you got two saparate video cards.... unless you intend to build another pc, store it as a spare video card in case your installed video card malfunctions.... guess you have to sell it. but my suggestion would be to keep it as a spare....|||if they are pci express with SLI it will make game performance better.

Does Nvidia manufacture their own Video cards?

Do they? or they only research the technology and let over manufactorer make them the cards?

if they do,where can I purchase?

do they also make motherboards? where again?

if not. Which is the most efficinet video card company? Atleast makes it perfect as Nvidia can.

can you install 2 9800 on a striker II motherboards?

If yes, does it needs 2 processors to work effecintly?

this is a project for gaming overclocking sysem.

Thanks for all of readers intrested by this question.

P.S: I want to make somthing works much more better than Alienware in the same time that does work for 2-3 years minimum.

Ciao.|||They do not, they only develop the chipset and sell it to manufacturers such as XFX, EVGA, BFG, etc.

You can find a wide selection of cards at newegg.com, look for XFX, EVGA, BFG, the big three.

Yes, Nvidia does produce motherboards, their chipset is called NForce.

Yes, the striker II, can handle even 3 9800gtxs. And no, it does not need 2 processors although they could be bottlenecked by the processor.
