Do you have to buy special types of video cards to upgrade a laptop?

That is, I have upgraded video cards on a PC but am in the market for a laptop. Most of the ones I've looked at come with crap video cards. How easy is it to swap out the crap one for a nice one that will handle 3D fx for games??|||you can get laptops with graphics cards that are as almost as good as desktop cards. depends on your budget

check out dell xps and alienware area 51

but as has already been pointed out, you need to get the gpu right when you buy as very few machines are upgradable.|||Most likely, the graphics card of a laptop cannot be removed or replaced.

Even if it were possible, its extremely difficult to find a laptop graphics card.|||Most are integrated into the laptop and specifically designed for that model. So to answer your question in short NO, you can't upgrade the graphics processor in any laptop.

So if you want a good graphics processor in the laptop you buy it has to be in it to begin with. Like a Geforce 8400.
